Mod format and mod installer - 23-08-2008, 11:14 AM

I'm putting all my new posts in the "think tank" because they aren't really feature request, i'm sharing all the nices stuffs i've found around in the Internet.

Mod Format :

PHPBB has done a nice job in creating a "mod format" called ModX (X for XML)
phpBB • MODX Resource Centre
It's easier for the community to always use the same pattern.
With the XSL you get a cute manual installation guide :
Hello World
Atm there are no automatic mod installer, but it's on progress (i think. There used to be "easy mod")
A community member made this: phpBB • View topic - [Beta] Seven MODX Installer - 0.3.1.0
but it's a desktop programm and not something embeded... but still, that's nice.

in the same time i also found this:
PHP: xdiff - Manual

for v4, kayako should think about something like that to support third party mods (for example, SERM is really boring to install and when new versions comes... you don't really want to reapply all your mods).

Hi Sheep,

I am not sure that we will be adding code hooks throughout the system in order to support 'drop in' modifications like this. However, we will be easing modification development with an extensive API which will make extending the system (such as creating an additional module) much easier.

Its something I'll look into though, as this would make sharing modifications easier.
