I have a text area where I need to capture quite a bit of text in a support ticket. The 255 char limit is too restrictive, please open this up to a much larger value.

i know you can do it in microsoft's sql, but does mysql have a variant to allow for a field to contain more than 255 characters?

It must, I haven't checked, but the ticket content isn't limited to 255 chars, nor should a custom field that uses textarea, it naturally can collect a lot more text which is the problem we had.

Yes, you could use text for example.

If you have DBA-access to the MySQL server, this is easy to change.
