Thumbs up Geo features - 23-12-2007, 02:13 PM

  1. Geo Location - Enables showing the country, region, and city for any visitor in a chat and of each visitor.
  2. IP and Reverse IP - See the IP address and Reverse IP (host name) of each visitor.
  3. Entry URL Tracking - View the Entry URL of every visitor (useful to see which visitors came from ad campaign #1 vs. ad campaign #2).
  4. Real-Time Visitor Monitoring - Track visitors on your website as visitors move from page to page.
  5. And last, not geo - I would like to see "is typing" in Chat window
Thanks!

Hi there,

Thanks for posting your requests. In future, please keep requests separate - otherwise they are very hard to manage.

Everyone one of your requests currently exist in the desktop application. For each visitor, the following information is recorded, including their country and page footprints (their browsing history). Visitors are also monitored in real time:

We have no plans to implement this functionality via the web browser, but you can receive all of this using the desktop client that comes with SupportSuite and LiveResponse. The latest version is available from Kayako Software Downloads

1) Country is showing incorrect (BUGS #KHT-196770) + NO info about region and city! It is most important because our business is local.
2) Yes, you are right. Sorry.
3) Entry URL Tracking - NO this feature.
4) Yes, you are right. Sorry.
5) NO "is typing" in Chat window now

Hi there,

I am afraid it is impossible to be this specific based on an IP address - the only way to get this data is to get it from the user herself.

Quote:
3) Entry URL Tracking - NO this feature.
Please see the URL under Referrer - sometimes there may not be one (if the user typed in the address manually, or if they have disabled their referrer agent feature of the browser).

Yes - this happens two ways; both the staff and client can see if each other is typing.

You are not right! It is possible and a lot of scripts can do this. Thare are a lot of databases in Internet, which you, we and your clients can use:

MaxMind - GeoIP for your IP address - the best base for all world!
IP-. IP-. - the best free database for Russian Federation
IP Address Location - Enter IP address to find its location - Lookup Country Region City
IP Address Locator - Enter an IP address to find its location - Lookup Country Region City etc (flash GeoSelectDemo)
Locate IP Address to Country and ISP Netblock | IP2Location?
My IP - What is my IP address? Free IP Tracer, IP Locator, Hide my IP address

It is most important feature. Please, add this!

These services only return the location of one of the parent exchanges of the ISP; at best (in very, very few cases) will it even locate a local exchange.

For example - I am currently in Leeds, United Kingdom. I tested one of the above tools, and it located me as being in Aylesbury, United Kingdom. This is the location of the central exchange of my ISP - which is nearly 200 miles away. Another one I tested said I was in London, United Kingdom (again, around 200 miles away).

Locating a country based on an IP address works most of the time, but try and get any more specific than that and things become too inaccurate and actually mislead rather than inform.

Maybe when IPv6 is fully implemented, better locality checking can be done using IP addresses. Until then, it is not possible to do it in a reasonable degree of accuracy.

I will look into this - the feature is there, however.

But it is work! Many bases is updated every day, week. I use 2 databases in my feedback form on my site. And it is work COOL! 99% I see correct information. Therefore this feature must be added! Your competitors already using this feature! But I want see this feature in Kayako!

I'll certainly do more research into the databases available.

Jamie: You are incorrect. It doesn't work in the UK but does in the US.

I agree that it does work in the US, and it should definately be in the current version, as should the ability to print or email the chat session from the client site panel.

Almost every other live chat system offers both of those items and they are both incredibly important features.
