Live Chat Via LightBox: Bypass all popup blockers! - 03-02-2009, 04:02 PM

I think this definitely needs to be in V4, but a lightbox option would be a great add one, because it gives the ability to bypass popup blockers, just make sure if you build it, we can easily customize it. I got one working on my site and my test customers think it's great because they all had popup blockers and didn't have to worry.

Note when building it in that many applications have their own functionality using these windows and interfering with them is not an option. Also, make sure to prefix all JS so it doesn't mess up in that way.

Well I think popup window is a bit better idea because it lets user to navigate the pages during the chat. But with lightbox, it may not allow visitor to keep on navigating page during the chat season, because most of such popups just closes the popup windows.

Well offering both allows the user to choose which they want.

Agreed. I hope this is optional

To add to this, while chatting to Epson support today (could not find Win 7 drivers for my scanner after yesterdays upgrade!), I noticed they have a nice chat way of doing things. Basically, it takes you over to the URL of the live chat but frames the content of the main site so you can continue browsing (ie chat at the bottom, content of the site at the top).

The reason I thought this is a rather good idea is you can continue browsing through the site but at the same time not have to flick through Windows to keep chatting.

Something to think on.
