Email Issues in Windows 2003/Exchange 2003? - 16-10-2007, 08:59 PM

I'm looking to purchase the owned eSupport license. But I want to make sure about a few things first.

Does email piping work in a Windows Server 2003/Exchange 2003 environment? The Exchange install is on a separate physical server, btw.

Do I need to install hacks/additional software besides PHP/MySQL/Zend to get email running? (ie Cygwin, etc)

What issue can I expect or should I prepare for in this environment? So far I have PHP/MySQL/Zend successfully installed and running.

The only posts I found about this are from 2005-2006 so i don't know what progress has been made.

I do not believe email piping would work if the mail server is on a different server. You can look into using POP3 accounts which you can fetch into the helpdesk.

Provided your server meets other software requirements - PHP/MySQL/Zend should be it.

I suggest you create a phpinfo file and contact Kayako Support to confirm if the software will work absolutely fine on your server.

Just to clarify on this; "piping" works in a way best described as your mail server/software "pushing" an incoming e-mail message into the SupportSuite mail script.

POP3/IMAP "polling" works the other way around - at a certain interval, the SupportSuite script will poll a mailbox for new messages and pull them into the script.
  • Piping - push e-mails into the SupportSuite mail script (using aliases and forwarders)
  • Polling - pull e-mails into SupportSuite from a regular POP3 or IMAP mail account

I wanted to mention that eSupport is running beautifully without any problems.

it took a lot of tweaks that I found in a lot of places. It would have been nice to go to one place for full Windows setup. That is, mbstring issues, SMTP issues, etc.
