License for Staging - 22-09-2007, 02:57 PM

We recently purchased SupportSuite (owned) and have successfully implemented it --- and are LOVING it.

Now that we are going through modifications and add-ons, I have been implementing directly on the Production server. A couple have caused issues and have had to be tweaked. Since our user base was low, it was no major issue. But now that are active users are growing, we don't want to test template mods on our Production server.

My question is... Do I need to purchase another license to support running a staging instance of SupportSuite? I would like to run a test db and test web on another machine, but could install the test instances on the same server --- just seperate from Production.

Thanks!

As long as you run it on the same domain and have it locked out from public access (ie using HTTP Authentication), you are permitted to do this.

You can contact Kayako and request a developer license which will only work with http://localhost so will only work locally.... But if you want a live test environment on the web such as dev.yourdomain.com then yes that would require another license but you can get a "Additional Domain License" for one third the cost of the regular price of a full license.

what craigbrass said is not 100% accurate its on per instance basis not per domain basis as outlined at http://support.kayako.com/index.php?...&kbarticleid=4

Jamie or Varun (can't remember which) posted something similar to what I said a while back about it being permitted as long as it was only for development purposes and was locked down.

The dev version would definitely fit the bill. Using localhost is not a problem as I would be the only one testing -- and I have full rights on the server.

Thanks for the feedback!!!
