Post URL/Domain Registration Query - 15-08-2008, 03:17 PM

Hi,

we need to register our owned supportsuite.

We want to use it internally only at this time.

Which url /domain do we need to use?

Required:

For intenal use only.
We have Windows 2003 AD domain - internaldomain.local
We use std 192.x.x.x private ipaddress range.
we do have an external email domain which is in form extrnaldomain.ltd.uk
In the fututre we may want to allow customers to log support tickets directly. This would be facilitated via a url re-direction to our internal server.

so do we register:
1. http://internaldomain.local/
2. http://externaldomain.ltd.uk/
3. http://192.x.x.x:8888
4. http://localhost:8888
5. http://servername.internaldomain.local/
6. http://servername.externaldomain.ltd.uk/

Thanks

Hi Tushar,

Welcome to the forums. You need to register whichever domain you will use to access SupportSuite. If you will be using internaldomain.local to access your support desk, then this is the domain that you need to register.

If you plan on (in the future) switching to your external domain, you may wish to register and start using your external domain now so to save changing your license in the future.

Kind regards,

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for the reply.

do we need to access the application via the registered url or can we use the local ip address? e.g

if we register http://externaldomain.ltd.uk/

we will not be useing that url for internal access. So internally we wis th acess using the host server name or host ip address viz:
http://servername/
http://192.x.x.x/

would this work?

Hi Tushar,

Yes - you have to access the support desk using the domain name (or IP address) that is licensed.

However, if you purchase a license for http://externaldomain.ltd.uk then we will be able to add your local IP address to your license (so you can use both your external and internal domain/IP).

You would need to contact our sales department to arrange this after you have purchased your first license.

Thanks,

You may use the domain or the IP address as you prefer; what matters is that what the web browser goes to needs to match the key.

We kind of recommend that you don't use the IP address, because that way if you decide to expose the helpdesk later, you won't have to change your key / do funky network bridging. But, it's up to you; the product will function correctly either way.
