connecting ldap to custom fields - 19-04-2006, 01:27 AM

Hi all,

We have some custom fields for Company and Telephone number, location etc. What we'd like to do is pull the info from active dir via ldap. Does anyone know how to go about this?

Cheers

Kav

I'm not sure what you mean by "pull". Does this mean it would add a contact entery for each person? The users table is not designed to hold much/any information about the user beyond logon information.

If you are interested, I am working on a modification to the user lookup that will also do lookup from an LDAP source. I'll post if you're interested.

Hi,

We have 3 custom fields, [company], [location] and [phone number]. I'd like to populate these fields from the current logged on user via AD, instead of getting the user to type them in. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Okay, I am confused now that I read this more. Do you have some field on your LDAP server for each user in LDAP that could supply company and location? Will all of this be coming off of one server? Do you already have LDAP LoginShare module setup?

We could modify the AD loginshare to add customfield values. We would need to edit bot hthe customfieldvalues and the customfieldlinks tables. If I recall, this data might actually be able to be set to update on every user login as well.

That's exactly what we want. We are currently using the Ad LDAP Plugin. So for example:

Username: jbloggs
Pass: password

-> Logs into support centre > Supportsuite populates his name and email address via LDAP.

Joe Bloggs clicks on "Submit a ticket"

Chooses Department

In the Ticket Submit form the custom fields [company] [location] and [phone number] should be populated from AD.

Cheers

I would just want to see a current LDAP lookup -- we dont want to store anything into kayako, but rather see a real-time lookup from LDAP on each custom field.

I'd be interested in any examples you may have done...

I think doing that might require a lot of work in editing SupportSuite files, I'm not sure. This could be very useful for me as well, however. I'll see what I can cook up. As I said before, I did change the user lookup tool to search LDAP, but that has very limited usefulness (i.e. phone tickets).

UPDATE: I just happened to open functions_customfields.php. This might actually be easier than I thought.
