Question Discussion: Where should a community module be available - 13-07-2007, 02:16 PM

I'm thinking on how to release my "SERM" module (when it'll be done).
As it contains a lot of code and a good part is a copy/paste from kayako's code (changed a bit for my needs), i was wondering if it's ok to just create an archive and attach it in a thread.

I think that it could be freely delivered by kayako on demand and only available to members with an owned licence (or maybe offers an encoded version? but that's quite a lot of work).

Big modules (like SERM: 1200+ lines of code) aren't often released and patch like the ones on the forums aren't a big threat even when public.

Jamie, what do you think about this?

No way to release it as a module instead? That would be the best way.

What do you mean by "as a module instead?"
it's a module atm, but as it needs to interact with some events it requires to modify some tiny parts of kayako's core code so it's not a fully independant module.

The main problem is that we CANT show too much of kayako's structure to non -owned licence owner- users

Hi there,

Before making the thread piblic, please could you post the release in the Forum Helpdesk so I may review it?

In no way do we want to discourage community releases but it is best to take precautions. I'm sure we'll be very flexible in this respect.

I look forward to seeing the fruits of your hatd work!

I suppose doing like :-
In tickets.php find aprox line 255 saying "include blah.php" add the following below

sort of thing would be fine but as Jamie said, best to let him review it first.

I'll add that if Jamie considers it not acceptable to post, another option would be to release it via the members area if Kayako would allow.
