| Icons <-> Custom Field values (Manage Tickets page) -

Hello, I'm looking at a way to make icons correspond to custom field values.
What I'm trying to set up is this:
- Staff create a ticket manually
- From a custom field drop-down list, they select a 'Category' of ticket (aka Hardware Issue, Login Issue) for our internal organizing purposes.
- On the Manage Tickets page, instead of seeing the custom field value "Hardware Issue", we want to show a little icon representing hardware, etc.
Reasoning behind this is purely because as we add more fields, the display of the ticket table gets more compressed on the screen. Having a little icon would take up less space.
Any idea how I could link this on the Manage Tickets page? I'm not sure how this would need to be implemented but I'm assuming it can be done from one of the templates?
Any insights?
