Session Sharing - 14-05-2008, 12:46 PM

Ok so heres the deal. I have Kayako and vBulletin installed. I setup Kayako to be able to share a login thing with VB but what I want to do is when you login to vBulltin, you also login to Kayako.

This is not such a big deal because I am a very expierenced PHP programmer. I have already setup session sharing between our main website and the forums and have bundled this all up into 1 easy function. The idea is if you view our forums or a page on our site you update 2 sessions so you don't have to login to both sections separatly.

Well now that we have Kayako we apparently have to manage 3 sessions at the same time. The only problem is that, even with the source code version installed and purchased, the 2 files that I would have to study to figure out how to do this (swift.php and functions.php) are still blocked! Infuriating!

So is there any tutorial, fix, ability to get these 2 files un-encoded, that would help me do this? I have centered everything around the vbulletin login so all I need is the specs on how and were the sessions for Kayako are stored so I can write my own function that will create / update the Kayako sessions while not on a Kayako page.

Thanks.

I don't think you need the source code to these files to do it. There is nothing inside these files I have seen that is required to achieve what you are trying to do.

I am aware that I don't need these files to do it.

What I don't have is the knowledge about how the sessions are created/updated/checked/everything. The class "Session" is in functions.php. This file is obviously important to be able to see how the sessions are managed since it holds the class that manages them.

Thats were my problem is. I need to see the session class to understand the session handling but I can't see the session class.

Whats so secretive in this file anyway? Its the core functions, if you own the source code then these would be the reason you bought the source code in the first place. You could keep the silly "phone home" stuff in the swift.php file but at least give me access to some useful source! Not to be too mean but we didn't pay good money to see Kayakos version of a date handler.

Kayako's argument has always been that it is to protect licence functions. Core stuff is added to these files as well so you can't just rip out the licensing engine and then distribute it over the internet. Thus, the only way you could do what I have just said is to decode the files and then do it.

I have always been strongly opposed to this and feel there are much better ways to deter piracy and have voiced this to Kayako's management. For example, software my company is currently creating will be provided with 100% source code without any encoding.

I am glad we agree on that. I mean even vBulletin is not open source but at least when I need to, I can view and edit the source and even get support on how to do it.

But anyway, does anyone have any documentation or could anyone help me with getting the exact specs on how they manage their sessions so I can emulate it in my 1 function on my main site?

Yup. I have always said encoding stops creativity. Simple as.
