drop down menu custom field - 13-12-2007, 01:04 AM

I am adding a custom field to my user ticket creation process. I am requiring the end user to choose a software version. I have chosen a selection drop down menu (single selection only). I have set this custome field as 'Is Required'. I have 4 choices total 1. Choose one... 2. version x 3. version y 4. I don't know?.
I have chosen 'Choose one...' to be the first displayed, however I don't want some one to leave it at 'Choose one...'.
How do I set this first option as not a valid choice and set all the other 3 options as valid?

I went 'view source' on the actual esupport page and saw that it was just a drop down menu and I know I need to add <option selected>Choose one...</option> to the start of this drop down code.
However I cannot find out where to get to this code in the templates to do so.
Any help?

Thanks,

Aaron

PS I am running an owned version of esupport.

update on custom drop down fields - 13-12-2007, 06:12 PM

I got an answer back from Kayako about setting one of my drop down menu items as not a valid choice. I asked for the path to the file where I could manually change the code to include the snippet of code to make me 'Choose one...' option not a valid choice. However, the coding is way beyond me, so to play it safe I won't go there unless I can get any help from anyone else who knows what they are doing. Any takers??

The file for this in the software pack is:
\upload\includes\functions_customfields.php

Thanks everybody for your help and ideas!

Aaron

another idea for my customized drop down menu... - 13-12-2007, 08:30 PM

ok! I notice that there is an option to create a 'Custom' custom field when I insert a custom field.
It says "Select this field type to create a generic entry for custom fields in eSupport. However you will have to add the required HTML code yourself in the ticket submit templates. This type of custom field only provides a pathway and storage area for the data - you must code the corresponding HTML for a user to input the data."
Ok, so I went to the ticket templates, but which template is it and where abouts in that template do I add my html code?

I see a 'submitticket' template but it all looks greek to me in there.

Thanks again,

Aaron

Use some html editor, you should be familiar with html if you want to use custom in custom field.

Why do you want to use Custom?

I mean other fields like Text, Text Area, Password, Checkbox, Radio, Select, Select Multiple are not enough?
