Question How to add a forum icon to main page - 23-07-2008, 12:22 AM

I have just installed vbulletin, however, I do not intend to use loginshare. I do what to place some type of clickable icon on the main supportsuite page that my users can click on to visit the forums.

Can someone assist me with this?

You can add additional links/icons by editing the Widgets.php file which you can find under -- includes/Widgets directory of the software

I am having trouble with the "link" part of this edit.

If I want the widget to point to "http://www.mysite.com/support/forums" then how do I show that properly?

Also, the "if" statement at the beginning of each module, how will that work for an additional icon?

Do you want to restrict the icon for logged in users only? As for the link simply use "http://www.mysite.com/support/forums" as the link.

No, the icon can show at all times.

The other thing that is throwing me is the "if" statement at the beginning of each icon code.

If code? Just add the code something like this without any if and else:

Code:
$_widgets[MODULE_NAME]["icon"] = $_SWIFT["themepath"]."news.gif";
$_widgets[MODULE_NAME]["title"] = "Forums";
$_widgets[MODULE_NAME]["description"] = "Description";
$_widgets[MODULE_NAME]["link"] = "http://forums.domain.com/";

That was simple. I guess I was reading in to it too much. Worked great. Thank you!

Thanks that worked great but just one question. Now the icon appears on all the Kayako system. In my case I have 2 templates, 1 public, 1 private. How can I only show the icon based on the permissions? For example it should only display on the private/registered users template?

Thanks
Volker

I am not sure I understood your question. You want it for user specific or template specific?

I dont want it to appear on all templates. I have 2 templates, and the icon appears on both. The Ticket module for example you set it to appear only on a specific template. That means a user that doesnt below to that group when he access Kayako will not be able to create tickets. I have 2 templates, 1 template is private, only for registered users, so nothing is displayed on it, except the forum icon i created now.
