Active Directory User Import Script - 12-01-2007, 06:03 PM

Attached is my utility to query your AD and import the users into the SupportSuite. This will help in the issue in which the user hasn't logged into the system before they email a ticket in.

I'd be happy to help with any issues you may have but the utility comes as is and don't expect it to work 100%

Enjoy.

Import from AD - 20-08-2007, 04:30 PM

HiLandspped,

The import function appears to work fine, however I just want to import the users and assign them all a default password and then use the standard esupport login routine to login. I have modified your file to include the default group and SLA I want to assign them but I cannot sign in.

Regards

If you are assigning them a default password did you change the authentication type?

Smile Active directory import - 10-03-2008, 05:52 PM

I want to perform an import from active directory instead of rely on the users to access the portal. I want to import username, email and password so if they ever so want to access the portal it will work. I am using AD integration but the process requires the user to login to populate the database. How can I accomplish this?

I'd verify that the variables in that script are correct. Make sure your DN is valid, you have the correct domain controller and the username and password for the ldap connection has access to perform the query.

You could perhaps use the ldp tool to find the correct DN settings as explained here.

ran script unsuccessfully - 29-09-2008, 08:06 PM

The script appeared to to run successfully stating that it had imported 1000 accounts, but there are no new users to be found??? It also ran much to fast for 1000 users to have been imported. Anything that i could be doing wrong or forgetting???

Got it - 15-10-2008, 01:41 PM

I needed to use the "samaccountname". This worked for me. You can also modify the script to add only new AD users that have not yet been added to swusers table and schedule the script to run daily so that your user database is always up to date preventing users from getting locked out if a phone ticket is created before initial log in. I also was able to change a few things, and use the script to import my contacts from AD as well. Great script, Thanks!

So is this the only way to deal with users that are not in the system and have never created a ticket? In our AD system we have a lot of users and I know that only a fraction of them will ever access our helpdesk. Is there an easier way to deal with users that submit a ticket for the first time but have never logged in?

there is no other way that i've found - 22-10-2008, 06:38 PM

I searched everywhere and even submitted a ticket with kayako asking for alternative ideas, but Kayako support said that this was not possible. This is the only way that i could accomplish this. I was very close to throwing out kayako all together until i stumbled on this script and tweaked it a bit.

I actually didn't end up importing the contacts, it worked, but decided to use the "phonenumber" field that is in the swusers table instead, so i made the script import the data from ad that i wanted into the swusers table. This way there is only one table to keep up to date. Although the phone number field is kind of "hidden" in the swusers table, when searching for someone that calls, it does show their phone number, email address, and name.
