anyone know if this can be done? - 16-06-2006, 09:23 PM

Our security manager in our department would like to post security tips consistently on the website at the top or bottom of the screen as a sort of "tip of the day" format. I was wondering if anyone was able to show a quick example (i have the owned version so don't worry about not being able to see code) of either presenting something like this in a simlpe and attractive format or how to make a javascript window open with its contents in a small new window just as you would with other "tip of the day" programs. Thanks.

okay where exactly would you want this? as you could build a widget titled for example "Security" and then set it up to pick the information from your database... or you wanting to make it go into SupportSuite News section?

Unfortunately he wants it to be "forced" upon them to see this. If its a security widget then they would have to actually "use" the security widget, and if it was a news article, he said they would have to actually "click and read" the article. So basically he wants at the bottom of the page under the navigation links, to have a centered text be put there that we can update manually until a database could be programmed to do it automatically. Right now, he just wants it to be permanent hardcoded text or hardcoded text in a javascript window on opening of the page as a more "security tip of the week."

As an example, at the bottom of the page he would want something like:
Phishing isn’t what it used to be. (make this bold and in the center)
It seems like every time you turn the news on or open a newspaper, you find some story relating to identity theft. Phishing is exactly that, but it relies on the victim to give the information away. This can be done thru a false website or even an email reply. The best practice in protecting yourself from being phished, is to never give sensitive or private information away to an unsolicited request. (this is centered, but not bold)

Does it have to be a popup as most users would be able to get round this, as then a simple "quote of the day script would work here useing javascript. Or I have a nice script that I use for a random signature it takes a standard image and then puts a quote or message of the day message on it. If it has to be a popup then you could use a DHTML popup window eg take a look here at some examples of DHTML Popups
