Auto-generated passwords?

The client I am working for contacted Kayako last week and was told there was a way to turn on generated passwords on user registration. Basically, they don't want the user to choose their password, they wanted it to be generated and mailed with the verification e-mail. This requires the end user to actually be at the e-mail address they gave. I don't see a way to do this in the settings, and in fact, the registration template seems to have no logic wrapped around the password fields. I take it this is going to require a template change?

This can be possible by editing the templates (on non-hosted version) with use of some PHP code.

Yes - I do not believe there is an out-of-the-box setting to do this.

Does anyone know if it's been done? Are there any examples out there? I find it strange that Kayako told my client this was possible, and in fact that our E-Support site was "setup all wrong", despite us having an out of the box 3.x product that this is supposedly not possible in (without custom changes).

There is no automated way to do this. Custom work should do the job.
