Thumbs down Bug: Can't view e-mail headers from ticket view - 08-09-2008, 07:55 PM

If I click the icon on the left side, under the user's name to view the e-mail headers, I get the following error:

Invalid parser log entry. Make sure that the parser log entry exists in the database and has not been deleted.

Are you trying to view an e-mail's headers that was processed before your log retention time, set here? (Mail Parser settings):

I have Enable Logging turned off as it shut down e-mail in 3.20'ish. I'll turn it back on now and hope it works this time! It's a shame I have to use logging to view an e-mails header.

If there aren't any logs to retrieve the e-mail headers from, then I am afraid you cannot view them.

Two feedback items then, a la better programming:
  1. The message should show that Error Logging is disabled therefore e-mail heading information is not available. The current error message leads you to believe there is a problem which we then chase down
  2. The better option is that when features are not available as a result of admin settings, i.e. if I cannot view e-mail header information because I have Enable Logging Off, disable or hide that icon. I should not see the features I cannot access.
Some UI guides say never disable things but instead provide an informative message so if I clicked the header icon I would get a message pointing me as to what I need to turn on to use that feature.

Thank you for your feedback; we will take it on board.

The message you are shown is pretty clear and is completely accurate, however; the log is not there to view (as you have told the system to purge e-mail logs). However, it could be 'nicer' and explain you have logging disabled.
