Bugs fixed quickly ...but CVS means what?? - 09-12-2007, 04:26 PM

Despite recent criticisms of Kayako, 2 (minor) bugs that I reported last week were fixed within 48 hours

However the email (that told me they'd been fixed) referred to "as of tonight's CVS build" (meaning ? CVS?)...

...but my key question is : "How soon should the fixes appear in the Hosted version of Kayako?"

Hi Timetabler,

I would suggest waiting for the next stable release and then upgrading (via your members area) your support desk to the latest version. The next stable release is not far away.

Thanks,

Upgrade not automatic - 09-12-2007, 04:32 PM

So 'hosted' versions are not auto-updated?

No, not automatically. However, the actual process is automated for you such that you can click a button to uprade.

The reason for this is so that you can backup your template customisations because it may be that in order for your installation to function, templates need to be updated (that "Require revert" back to their original state).

Jamie,
I don't understand your second paragraph and its implications for Users:
"The reason for this is so that you can backup your template customisations because it may be that in order for your installation to function, templates need to be updated (that "Require revert" back to their original state)."

Would you mind spelling it out for me?

Between versions you may be required to revert certain templates and reapply your changes manually. The manual updating allows you to do this when you have time to do so.

What does "revert" mean in this context?
Does you mean some existing templates will be over-written?

If so, how does one know which templates will need re-fixing (before you actually do the update)?

Absolutely, sorry for not being clear enough.

Sometimes between SupportSuite versions, the HTML code of the templates are modified (such as when a bug is fixed on the front end, or a feature added) as well as the software source code.

If (for example) the *email_autoresponder* template has been updated in version 3.11.02, after you perform an upgrade your copy of the e-mail_autoresponder will be out of date and will be flagged as 'Requires revert' - basically meaning that your template is out of date, and in order to update it you need to 'revert' it back to its original state.

This revert process will cause you to lose any customizations you have made to this template, and it will be replaced with the original one for 3.11.02.

So;

You modify email_autoresponder in 3.11.01
You upgrade to 3.11.02
email_autoresponder now requires an update because the developers updated it between 3.11.01 and 3.11.02
You revert email_autoresponder
Your customizations (if any) are lost

By using this tool in the administrator control panel:

The above configuration would list all templates marked as 'Upgrade Revert Required' in the next step.
