Cron Job

Can I ask what this cron is for specifically?
wget -O/dev/null yourdomain.com

In the manual it says the cron must be run every 5 minutes, however, my web hosts only allow a cron interval of 15minutes and up and I would like to know how this will affect me ?

It does various clean up tasks as well as escalations.

The main issue you will have is if you have POP / IMAP mail fetching as it is only run on admin / staff area login + when the cron is run. If you use piping or don't get mail from a mail account, 15 minute cron will be fine.

Is it me or does it also seem to control the staff status? Ie: Whether my web site says Im online or offline ?

No, that is controlled by if you have moved around the ACP or SCP and also if you are logged into the LR WinApp.
