Email and registered users - 21-05-2008, 08:42 AM

Hi,

I apologise if I am repeating a question that seems to have been already answered but I think what I want to do should not only be possible but would likely be commonplace.

I want guests to be able to visit the web site and do everything EXCEPT lodge a ticket. To lodge a ticket they must register and acknowledge the email confirmation sent to them. They then must log on as a registered user.

I want to accept email from anybody addressed to support@bla EXCEPT they will not be automatically registered.

email from registered users (in a specified group) will marked as High Priority Ticket and those from unregistered users will be marked as Low Priority.

Can someone be kind enough to tell me how I set SS to do this.

Thanks.

This can be done but requires a few changes. Firstly, go Staff CP -> Users -> Groups -> Guest and you are able to disable ticket creation from there.

Next, set the email queue you have setup to Registration Required.

Setting the priority can be done as part of the Parser Rules inside the Parser section.

Thanks for your prompt response.

Unfortunately the email behaviour you suggest is not what I intended.

Mail addressed to support@blah should be accepted and a ticket generated BUT the email sender should NOT automatically become registered.

If that is not possible, then is it possible to have unknown email submitters registered in a special group.

For example, a complete stanger sends an email to support and the user gets registered automatically as a member of the "X GROUP".

Also, if this unknown user does get registered automatically, are they notified of a password so they can use the web interface?

Oh right, you want like "anonymous tickets". Unfortunately, tickets need to be assigned to an account and as such, one is automatically created when a ticket is submitted. Without changing the source code, there is no way around this.

Krikey - this is faster than support chat :-)

We're almost there - can you configure the automatic account creation to place the new account into a predefined specific group?

I guess this is something that could (in my case should) be done manually although I would like to set the priority higher for differing groups.

Glad I am able to help.

I *think* users always get created in the group Registered. I cannot find a setting to change this.

OK - I've been through the all the options I can and it looks like I'll need to make "registered" the lowest level of registration - if you see what I mean.

Thanks again for your help,

Cheers,
