end-user search in version 32 - 20-12-2005, 02:06 PM

I just upgraded to version 32 last night. I'm testing out all the front-end functionality, and the end-user search never comes up with any results.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there config I need to do? I have several test knowledgebase articles set up. No matter whether I search for words in the title or the article itself, nothing shows up. I've even tried with wildcards--still nothing.

Help!!!

try repairing your tables from the admin cp, which will force mysql to regenerate its full text search indexes. Also perhaps lower the minumum word length as in the "IRS tip" thread.

I'm on .31 and the search is working fine. I don't believe anything has been changed between .31 and .32.

Are you seeing a normal page (i.e. no results), or are you getting a blank page (which means something more serious)

Search works fine here too, Can you be a bit more descriptive?

Thanks.

I tried optimizing and repairing all the tables--no luck.

As for details: I am using the end-user search, from the box just under the logon panel. I am searching on terms that I know can be found in the titles and text of knowledgebase and news articles. The results:

Sorry! We were unable to find any results for your search keywords--please try new keywords. (I changed the standard no results phrase)

Search: test

Search Speed: 0.0029 Seconds

Back

That's it--so I get a message telling me there are no results, and a super-fast search speed. And that's it. I think it worked before the upgrade (I was on version 3.13) but I wouldn't swear to it.

I'll check out the IRS tip thread. But is there anything else I can try?

Hi,

How many articles do you have with the same word in both titles and content?

Hi,

I just had a flick through your KB, News and Downloads and could not find any articles that had mp3 in the title or content.

Thank you for response. But if you think search has to work inside the download folders as it was doing with 3.0.13. serach for mp3 or dvd and nothing shows up from downloads although there are plenty here http://www.bossaudio.com/support/ind...pcid=1&nav=0,1

The page you selected contains files with no descriptions.

AFAIK, SupportSuite only searches the contents of the articles in the Knowledgebase and the Descriptions of the files within Downloads (plus the titles of both). It does not search the contents of the files - it's up to you to put a resonable descriptions of the file into the database so that it can be searched.

Thanks for response but that is not the case here. As I said I used to be able to search for items based on file name. So if a download file name was mp3-2000r, simply searching for words 2000 or mp3 brings up the file not requiring the description at all. I have a open case with support too but the problem is they don’t read the question properly and give you a quick response. My IRS in ticket submission is not working either

Actually, I think it may be greater than that. I've just done a test on my site and it's now searching the Download section at all - even though I have detailed descriptions on all the downloads.
