How are versions released ? for an example 3.30.00 - 26-03-2008, 09:01 AM

Hi,

I was wondering how often after the 3.20.0X versions a version like 3.30.00 will be released.

I have tried to find out how the releases are done, but I can't get any track of it actually.

Why I want to know this is because I would like to see when we could expect a version release.

We are now already on 03 for the .20 version, if I'm right, so things go fast actually

Why would the next version be 3.30.00? Why could the next version not be 4.0 for example?
I am wondering how many released will be released from the 3.x version.

Because that number is already in the BugTracker with assigned tickets

Hi Thijs,

You are right; there little consistency in the naming of SupportSuite (, eSupport and LiveResponse). An incremement of zz (XX.YY.zz) is a minor release, an increment of (YY) is a major release, an increment of XX is an entire overhaul of the product line.

Following the release of version 4, we will be following a consistent versioning scheme.

The reason Varun chose to version the main packages this way is to make them as user friendly as possible. They are fairly easy to understand and tell apart, but in the future we do want to keep track of the version numbers properly (such as (although not final) the current version would be called 3.2.3.1234 where 1234 is the CVS revision, rather than tracking CVS revisions by date).

Ah, glad to hear it. That will be a much better versioning system.

Hi Jamie,

Yes inderstand, it's friendly enough actually, but not very well documentated

My question actually is, now there are already tickets assigned to 3.30.00 this release will not be away that far I have the idea, is this true ?

Hi Thijs,

It depends on the timings of releases of the versions that preceed it; so if the roadmap of 3.20.04 changes, so will the timing of 3.30.00 etc.

OK, but they don't place 3.20.05 between it ?

I mean, that is the issue at the moment.

Hi Thijs,

Currently, minor releases will see an increment of YY, and major milestones will see an increment of XX:

ZZ.XX.YY

3.20.02 - Stable
3.20.01 - RC
3.20.00 - RC
3.11.01 - Stable
3.11.00 - Stable

And so on..
