I screwed up the MySQL security - 07-10-2006, 10:40 PM

OK, I screwed up the security in my Kayako eSupport MySQL database (poorly thought-out experimenting). It's running on a stand-alone machine that no one else has access to, so I was able to temporarily get around the problem by starting MySQL with security disabled (which also proved that I was right about the cause of the problem).

Can anyone give me the commands to set the database security correctly? Assume I have a default Linux installation, everything in the default locations, etc.

Thanks for anyone with a few minutes to help!

What is the error that you now receive when you try to connect to your MySQL server?

Possible reasons for this error are:

1) The information you used in config.php is incorrect.
2) Permissions for the MySQL user using which you are connecting the database are not set correctly.

Yes, I know the permissions are wrong (I personally messed them up). I don't know MySQL at all. What I'm asking for is the actual MySQL commands to set the permissions correctly.

Thanks!

Try and use this command:

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON kayako_suite.* TO kayako_user@"%" IDENTIFIED BY 'support' WITH GRANT OPTION;

Hope this helps.

OK, it's not an esupport issue, it's a mysql issue of some kind, but I just don't get it. I set the passwords for "root" and "esupport" to the same thing, using the command:

set password for 'esupport'@'%' = password('mypassword');

Then I tried the following:

# mysql -u root -p -D kayako_suite
mysql> show grants for esupport;
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Grants for esupport@%
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
GRANT USAGE ON *.* TO 'esupport'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD '*1C1F256932D83271113FB5FDEBDF9350C8B05106'
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `kayako_suite`.* TO 'esupport'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION
+---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
2 rows in set (0.01 sec)
mysql> quit;

# mysql -u esupport -p -D kayako_suite
Enter password:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'esupport'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
mysql> quit;

Does anyone know what I screwed up?

Thanks!
