IE 7- beta 3.0.1.1 BETA- No Cigar - 16-12-2006, 06:16 PM

Hi;

& I quote:

"Live Support: - Moved the entire chat pool mechanism to use AJAX rather than the frame based refreshes. This should solve almost all chat message getting lost issues and problems with IE7. This is a major rewrite and requires proper testing"

I just installed the latest beta with the above description in the built changes.

Testing has failed. IE 7 still returns no response from the support person accepting the chat. The visitor requests a chat and the window shows "Please wait" and even though the support staff has responded the visitor does not see it.

Also.. Regardless of what I do the SyncWorks and InstAlert can not login to the support server and constantly fail authentication. I have tested this with all of our workstations and none can login to the server.

Regards,
Kami

This is a confirmed bug. Varun wanted us to test out before releasing the news to public. So, I suggest you drop back to .50 and wait for sometime.

Thank you for letting me know..

you stated: "So, I suggest you drop back to .50 and wait for sometime."

No problem. We have been waiting for this since the first incident I reported when IE 7 was in beta.. that was almost 7-8 months ago.. of course we can wait.. what is a year or two among friends.

Has anyone confirmed this bug in Macintosh? I have tested this in Macintosh Safari and Macintosh Firefox and they also behave similar to a machine with IE 7 installed.

Visitors using the following browsers can not use the chat in the Live Support.

- IE 7
- Macintosh: Firefox
- Macintosh: Safari

The release: Version: 3.04.51

Regards,
Kami

I am sure the AJAX feature for the client LR backend will fix all the issues. It's just that some testing is required before it's made public. So you can expect all the issues to end soon

I been pretty patient with kayako as a new user, but for their developers to take so long to fix the IE7 bug when the final has been out for about 2 months now is ridicoulous and especially with Microsoft pushing IE7 via updates to everyone who has windows. This should be a top priority for their Windows customers. Can we as customers get a christmas gift and have this fixed before the year is over?

Danym..

This issue was brought up after beta 2 of IE 7 and Kayako stated that they are not going to touch it since it is a beta software [that was in March 2005 time frame]. Of course now they admit that it is a bug in their software that shows itself with IE 7.

Of course the bug does not stop with IE 7. It is also with Macintosh Safari and Macintosh Firefox.

Lets hope the fix comes up soon.. one note about the latest CVS. If you upgrade to the 51 CVS the chat will stop working all together. I updated the CVS this morning and chat stopped working with all browsers.

Version: 3.04.51 (CVS) - 19 Dec 2006 01:13 AM

So far all 51 releases have caused problem with the chat with all browsers.

Based on my analysis yesterday about 7% of all chats are with IE 7 and we simply have to ignore them which looks horrible on us.

Lets just wait and see..

As I said before, until Varun and his team fix it, it's better we stick to the .50 version. It should be fixed very soon, I guess. The bug was discovered just after their office closed for weekend.

Hi,

Further updates have been pushed to the CVS for the IE7 issues (may fix for Mac Safari and FireFox too but I don't have access to a Mac or either browser to test).

Just as Neil said, it seems to have been fixed. Again, there's no MAC around me to confirm this but I am sure it should now work flawlessly on all browsers.

Gentlemen..

Not fixed when I tested it.

3.04.51 (CVS) - 21 Dec 2006 01:13 AM

I just installed the above release and tested it with IE 7 with the LiveSupport version that was in the package and still the same problem both with IE 7 and Macintosh Safari and Firefox.

Release 51 once installed actually makes the chat stop working all together for all browsers on Mac and PC. I had to revert back to 50.
