knowledgebase comment count - 02-03-2007, 08:36 PM

Hi

we are using stable build of 3.10,

we had 7 comments approved (done in previous release), I un-approved them, then deleted them. However the comments count (on the comment tab) has remaind at 7 and not reset back to the correct number, in this case 0

I then went and added a comment, but the comment count still remains at 7 instead of 1

we have tried closing the window and also doing page refesh, makes no difference

OK we have fixed it by clearing the cache, is this the only way to update the count ??

any thoughts

Richard

*grr* comments...
Cleared the cache....and the number of comments actually increased.
Where's that stored, or does it go by the INDEX of the commentID table or something?

I've dumped all comments repeatedly since it's invariably spam, and the count is always off. Apart from being able to turn this off, or at least having a simple way to mass delete (rather than queries or hand deleting singly), a way to kill the count when mass deleting (truncating tables) would be nice. We've been asking for these simple things for a while now, but there must be more pressing matters...

Well I thought this was a stable build so these little bugs would be fixed

Does anyne from Kayako know when this will be resolved and is their a request to add a feature as bear mentions to mass delete comments

Well, there is sort of a fix included in 3.4.10..a checkbox to select all on the page and delete. Much better than nothing (still clunky when you have hundreds), but the count isn't affected if the comments were unapproved when deleted. I had a few on the new desk I installed that were approved (spam, though) and deleting them decremented the counter. It seems it's only when the comments are not approved that the counter gets "stuck".

Can't we please just get a "no comments allowed" button and shut the darn thing off completely if we want? Editing templates and so on is foolish as that sort of "fix" often gets overwritten during upgrades.

Templates do not get overwritten when you upgrade unless that specific template needs to be restored

The point is, there are times when that will take place, forcing me to have to redo code instead of being able to press a button that says "disallow comments".

I'd like to edit this from all templates, disallowing comments completely, but I'm not sure what to look for. Can you suggest something? In addition, since many spammers just directly submit this sort of thing, will it break things to remove the file that coments are submitted through..or maybe just "0" out the permissions?
Hints would eb appreciated.

I agree. We should be able to disable submission of comments for each particular area. So, in the admin settings there should a checkbox that says "disable comments" and the ability to submit should be completely removed.

Yes, I can remove it from the template but this is a workaround to something that should really be added as a feature. We receive literally hundreds of spam comments and with there not being an easy way to clear out unapproved comments en masse I have to manually remove them from the DB. Then, of course, we have the count issue -- none of the commment counts get reset as they should.
