Question Knowledgebase Import question - 08-06-2006, 10:30 PM

I am looking for documentation on the K-Base import.
Specifically I need to know which fields are mandatory, and what the expected formats are for data.

I am in the process of Exporting data from my existing K-Base tool and need a quick & easy import (500+ articles to process).

Any help would be appreciated.

make a test document - 10-06-2006, 03:15 PM

best way is to make a test document and then export the item in xml format. View the xml format and then you can see exactly how everything is set up- parse your old data to match and then import it. If you are going to use categories in your knowledge base i recommend you create a few test documents and subfolders to see how these are structured as well.

I had already done that (but I do appreciate the suggestion).

I have created a file, tested it a couple times, Import reports success, but there is no file.

So, Are there any logs that will show me why I am not getting any articles imported? Or can anyone tell me where to find *any* documentation about StaffCP and K-Base import?

quick question - 13-06-2006, 03:37 AM

quick question, if you delete your test files from inside the support system and reimport the ones that you exported earlier, will it add them again? I've noticed that i get hung and the process reports success if during the import one folder was missing when trying to import it in. *shrug* im assuming you have a huge database to be imported, so i would suggest sending in a ticket and then maybe the developers will find a good tool to help you bring those over.

Got it working - I was missing a closing bracket in the import file.

The Kayako support was laughable however.... Their response consisted of: "The XML file you are trying to import contains errors due to which it is not importing. You can confirm by running the file in IE."

No information about WHAT the error was, only that there was one.

In any event, my test file (25 articles) works...
Now for the other 450.

G

sometimes the help from kayako doesn't exactly give you the answer you want. Thats usually why the user to user forum has been pretty helpful and i try to help out where i can. Sorry i couldn't be more of one earlier!
