Question Language Questions - 01-04-2007, 10:16 PM

Hi,

I've found a lot of answers to my questions in the forums but I still have not found these, I hope someone can help.

I a referring to an owed SupportSuite v3.10.02 Installation.
  1. I have two languages, english and spanish (still translating in the adminCP). I can't find where to set spanish as the default language (for example, when I go to my Support Center, in the language menu, I still see the English (U.S.) as the default language and everything shows in english until I manually change to Spanish. How can I make spanish the default language (and english just available in the menu)?

  2. I've added a second language in the "/locale/" folder, "/locale/es-mx/". Where can I set this spanish language to be default for all staff members? Or if this is to be chosen by a staff member inside his/her staffCP, where can they set it? I logged in to my staffCP (with my admin user/pass) but can't find where I can choose a language in my preferences.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help.

Thanks!

Regards,

Sergio.

Hi sergiogza,

1) I'm afraid, from the top of my head I am not 100% certain, but I believe you do this by setting your "first" language to a display order of 1 in the administrator control panel (Languages > Your Language > Settings). Please let me know if you find different.

2) This is set in config.php

config.pho changed - no effect - 02-04-2007, 08:36 AM

Well, I had the same problem with my german language file. I changed the

* DEFAULT ADMIN LANGUAGE
*/
$_SWIFT["adminlanguage"] = "en-us";

to

* DEFAULT ADMIN LANGUAGE
*/
$_SWIFT["adminlanguage"] = "de";

while having a copy of the original ..../local/en-us files in the ..../local/de directory

IT DID NOT WORK!

Having translated files in the ..../local/en-us directory however worked perfectly well (if config.php remained unchanged)

On the other hand: SupportSuite seems not be able to offer indiviually localized interfaces at the same time. That meens: if you translate it to any language - even if you have additional directories for each one - the admin and staff control panels stick to one language. It seems, that this is not selectable per user. That is a major drawback. Imagine a country like Switzerland where 4 languages are spoken (German, French, Italian and Switzerdütch)...

If anybody can prove me I'm wrong - I'd be glad to hear about it.

Regards,
Peter Wlcek

ok i`ll help

FOR ADMIN LANGUAGE:

copy folder locale/en-us and rename it to what you want (you have to rename en-us.php to). then change in config.php this line
Quote:
$_SWIFT["adminlanguage"] = "en-us";
to
Quote:
$_SWIFT["adminlanguage"] = "what you want";
FOR FRONT END LANGUAGE:

go to adminCP -> Languages -> Insert Language (and insert new language and translate it )
after that go to adminCP -> Templates -> Manage Grounps
Here you can see only one group "default" click on settings button and select for "Default Language" your lang and your done.

Hi Jamie, I tried your suggestions and here are the results:

When I change the display order, it updates correctly in the menú but English Language is still default for new visitors. The config.php setting seems to work fine. I'll get back on this when I translate some parts of the files and see if it actually defaults to Spanish. Too bad all admin and staff cp's must be used in this language. I have Mexican and American staff members and they all want their natal language in their CP's.

Hi Peter,

I'm still checking this part on my installation but it seems to be working. Did you also change the en-us.php file to de.php? This could probably be the reason it didn't work for you. I'll let you know if it works for me.

This is a mayor problem. I also need individually localized staff CP's. I'll suggest this feature for the next update.

Hi netbull, thanks for your help Ok, for the Admin Language, I followed your steps and everything seems to work fine. For the front end language, I inserted a new "Español (Mexico)" Language and am translating it. I also added template groups modernbillenglish (not default and with English Lang) and modernbillspanish (I set it as default and with Spanish Lang). Still, when a new visitor comes to http://www.tusitioenlinea.com/soporte/, it is still in english. When the visitor manually changes to spanish, I guess a cookie gets stored in the browser because on the next visit, it stays in spanish.

Any ideas on how to make modernbillspanish template group the default one (remember, it's allready set to default with spanish language but it is not the one displayed for new visitors)?

Thanks for your help!!

Regards,

Sergio

Exclamation CP not Multilingual - 04-04-2007, 12:56 AM

We've also been trying to get Kayako to make the Admin/Staff CP multilingual. If you need this feature please chime in!

Right now, only one language is available for the Admin/Staff CP. Users does not have a choice of the CP's interface language.

Hi netbull,

Thanks again for your reply. I've tested your setting, in fact, I've had the same setting for a while but still the front end displays the template group called "default". The "modernbillspanish" template group does not have the Support Suite logo at the top left corner. You can check it here: http://www.tusitioenlinea.com/soporte/. I'm guessing there still is another setting somewhere or is just a bug. I had this same setting with version 2.x and it worked fine.

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for your reply and no worries. My natal language is spanish and sometimes I might not explain myself right . Anyway, this setting isn't working yet because the default template group is still "default" and not "modernbillspanish".

Hi caitlyntw,

I checked the bugs.kayako.net site and I think someone already posted this requirement. I hope it gets added soon. The only reason I'm not promoting kayako software to my spanish speaking clients is because of the difficulty to set up templates and languages to get it working fine. Only after I get my business installation of kayako working smoothly, I will consider promoting it in México.

I was thinking, if I have two or three template groups configured, how would I call each template group? I'm going to have a template and site builder division and will use a different template group.

For example, with my current template groups, how do I call each one:
  • default
  • modernbillspanish
  • modernbillenglish

I know the "default" template group is called through http://www.tusitioenlinea.com/soporte/ but what about the other two? There must be an URL with the template group name variable, right? Any ideas?

Thanks to all!!

Regards,

Sergio
