Mail - 07-02-2006, 01:59 AM

Sorry for the noob question. I am new to the entire help desk software.

In order for the system to rcv e-mails, does the software need to be installed on the same physical mail server? My web server and mail server are on two different machines, so I am wondering how this would work? Can it just retrieve and send the mail like a regular mail client using pop3 and smtp (e.g. outlook)?

TIA

Yes, your web server and mail server can be on different machines.

Thanks
Can you tell me if anything needs to be installed on the mail server itself? Or is everything done through pop3/smtp?

You don't have to install anything additional to the mail server, you should be fine with SMTP and POP3 if you would like to go to that route. If you have any other ways of getting eSupport configured (piping, IMAP, Etc.) I would be glad to help! If POP3 suites you then no additional software on the mail server is required. All you need to do is create the account that eSupport will use to access the webmail, and set up the CRON task if you are on a Linux operating system. Here are directions to set up CRON:

If you are on windows, additional software will be needed to allow the Windows Server to accept CRON type commands. Installing this software is simple and also explained in the v3 Manual.

Everything you need is there for POP access.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to drop a post here and I or other users will be glad to help.
