Question No such host as pop.gmail.com??? Error! - 30-06-2008, 10:33 PM

I'm running stable release of esupport 3.20.02 (ioncube) owned version.

I'm having a difficult time polling emails using the POP3 SSL email queue for Gmail. I receive the following error

=============================

array(1) { [0]=> string(29) "No such host as pop.gmail.com" } Total Messages
Rejected Messages:
Accepted Messages:

=============================

I was able to find the cron/index.php?_t=parser option and used that URL to generate the above message. I also have php compiled with IMAP OpenSSL and Keberos enabled.

I can't seem to get any POP or IMAP account to work and it's very frustrating. Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction?

What suggestion do you have? Thanks.

Are you sure you have added the email queue as POP3 SSL and not as POP3?

I've verified these settings on the admin page under my email queue. I tried both POP3 SSL and POP3 setting options with the same result.

The POP/IMAP services are enabled through gmail and I was able to successfully retrieve messages on Thunderbird through POP3 SSL and IMAP SSL.

Could this be a firewall issue? Perhaps outgoing requests on 995 (POP3 SSL) are getting blocked by our campus firewall.

Are there any additional fixes I can try?

That may well be the reason.

Yeah, "no such host as" means that name resolution is failing. Check your hosts file to make sure it hasn't been manually routed to nowhere, then check to see that DNS is working on that machine. After that make sure that the account or machine/ve that PHP is running on is allowed to make outgoing connections (pay attention to iptables rules and similar stuff).

This is the sort of thing that's best asked to one's ISP or IT department, to be frank.
