'Nobody' problem for answers, but not for autoreponder??? - 20-12-2007, 09:32 AM

Hi,

After our ISP has disabled SMTP settings we cannot send emails anymore through SMTP. So we would stick to sendmail, but we have the following problem:

- If a client sends an email to the support desk, he gets an autoresponder.

- If we answer his mail, the answer is bounced because of the 'nobody' not allowed error (some more people reported this).

After checking the email headers i concluded that the first autoresponder is sent from 'edbnl'- our account name, but other mails are sent from the 'nobody' account which is blocked.

We have the sourcecode so i could make a quickfix... Or is there a setting i should make?

(One small related issue: smtp-errors are not reported, even if you add non-existent servers no errors are reported)

Examples:

>>> WORKING ONE (autorepsonder to new email)
Received: from edbnl by rader.servnow.com with local (Exim 4.68)
(envelope-from <support_aangifte@kluwersupport.net>)

Mail sent by user nobody being discarded due to sender restrictions in WHM->Tweak Settings

If you have access to WHM you will need to do the following:

Go to WHM->Tweak Settings and uncheck:

"Prevent the user "nobody" from sending out mail to remote addresses (PHP and CGI scripts generally run as nobody if you are not using PHPSuexec and Suexec respectively.)"

Hi hbidad,

thank you for your answer, but i don't think we can alter the setting as our ISP has deliberately enabled this restriction.

And my primary question is why the autoresponder DO work and the reply's DON'T, why two different accounts seem to be used.

Again, thank you very much for your effort.

Regards,

Hugo

Hi hlogmans,

Please can you submit a support ticket with the appropriate access details? One of our technicians will happily take a look for you.
