referring to custom fields - 15-11-2007, 05:08 PM

Hi all,

When a user submits a ticket they get a reply with which they are referred to initially by their full name (e.g. Joe Bloggs). We would like it to be more personal by just referring to their first name. To do this I think a custom field on the user registration page capturing their first name would be the ideal solution.

My question is, how do you refer to the values stored in the custom field. For example, you can refer to information within the language by stating $language[informationname]. There must be a variable name or whatever, a way of referring to this information (custom field on signup)?

I do not think this is currently possible, however I think this would be a neat feature. I am not sure if it has been already requested.

Names are stored as their full name in the database so the only way to do it would be to say use the first word which isn't the best way to do it.
