Satellite helpdesk suggestions - 10-08-2006, 02:48 PM

Only becuase many of the posts on this are very old.. I would like you guys to give me some Ideas and let me know if this is the right idea I have about using Satellite helpdesks...

I support several types of clients:

General Consumers
General Businesses
Dedicated IT Management for Businesses

Ok my understanding in theory is...

I can assign a user to a template group and the helpdesk would have the look of the selected template group...

This would allow me to have a general look for everyday clients, but also offer a dedicated satellite desk on the same domain but with the clients look to it, or something to that effect.

Am I thinking correctly?

*bump* can anyone comment on this for me?

I did try making a group (keep in mind I am still playing with the trial) and created two users, one under registered and one under group 2 (horizon)...

horizon has a copied template with horizon info, but i cannot log into the registered section with user 1 where it is assigned, I can only log into horizon with user 2.

When i try to log into registered with user 1 i get this error:

Invalid Username or Password and it shows horizon in the title bar instead of itechwest.

this is the trial desk http://shanebell8502ak.kayakotrial.com/index.php

okay to access your template groups you would need to go too:

Replace the GROUPNAME with the Custom Template Groupname that you created.

Ok that fixed the log in issue, but I assume I have to send that full link to each seperate client to log in correct...

The only change I wish I could ses done is, when person goes to my desk... at the index, no matter what group they area assigned to, they are able to log in. And as part of the log in process, the help desk then routues to the proper template. Hope that makes sense

I'd like to see more discussion of or explanation why this might be true.

I'm having the same issues with trying to get Satellite feature to work. Has anyone ever seen step by step instructions on exactly how to set-up a separate helpdesk...that take you ALL the way through the process?

I would also like to see step by step instructions to get the Satellite desk working properly so that I can have one for english and one for russian and other languages.
