I deleted 3 spam comments - but they still show up as counted? (3) in my screenshot below.

They shouldn't be there, it should say "Comments" only, because there're no new posts.

Also, a FEATURE REQUEST get CAPTCHA working on that thing!

My first guess is that teh JS menu is just cached... Try clearing your cache folder and see iff the count is then correct when you reload the page..

If you want realtime view of comments then please do following:
