Search function problem - 01-12-2005, 03:00 PM

It pisses me off when trying to use the new search function. Even with a ticket open and using info right from the ticket search results are zero. Please do something about this. v2 search was great, v3 sucks and pisses me off.

Which of the searching features do you have problems with? I have no problem using the search, but I have not used it so much and I might have missed something.

The one in the staff panel for me... unless you get the search term exactly right it does not return results.

for instance, if you searched for the term "domain" and the posts had only ever mentioned domain.com then you would get 0 results... however searching for "domain.com" will yield the correct results.

Does it work if you add a wildcard? Like "domain*" or "*.com"?
I only have one test ticket and when I searched for "te*" it came up, but one ticket is not much of a test subject

Special columns don't work at all. I require my clients to insert their domain name and doing a search on that special field shows nothing when I have copied and pasted it so it's a perfect match.

I've also copied and pasted e-mail address and done a search and it returned zero results. I've done many test searches and it's one of the worse search features I have seen. Version 2 was almost flawless and extremely fast.

Any fix yet? We are using the hosted service, and have been feeling the keyword message search function not really reliable. This morning we optimized the database and the keyword search FAILED altogether by yielding "0 match" on whichever word we took from any existing ticket.

Now we only live on ticket search.... It sucks... We are also using a Cerberus ticket system for another client and this kind of search problem never happens on Cerberus : (

we are using 3.04.10 and search works fine

we use search from the staff Cp search > advance search

this works with wildcards (IE *****) and brings back all the coreect results
for tickets of ant status.

Cheers

Rick

I think the problem only occurs with multi-byte characters.

I have suffered this probem for 6 months, but still haven't get it removed.

> staff Cp search > advance search

Our emails are basically in only English. We search primarily with shipment tracking in this kind of format EE123456789HK, or pure number such as 987654321. We have enabled the system to index numbers. The iso-code is en-us. We put the numbers in both ticket title and message body. But no matter which options we used in searching from the "advance search" page, we often get "0 result" found.

What's the problem???
