Simplify registration process? Disable registration widget - 06-02-2007, 06:46 PM

I would like to remove the register widget as it is redundant... a user can create a new account just by submitting a ticket...

The current operation is confusing... when a user visits the site they do not know whether to register, try to login, or submit a ticket...

The user should be led through the process in a more intuitive manner.

Where can I disable the registration widget?

Softair has a plug in for this. it works really well on my site. Plus users can still view their tickets online through a link sent to them via email.

Here's How To Do It - 07-02-2007, 02:18 AM

In widgets/widgets.php edit as follows:

comment out lines 44-53 starting at "if (empty..."

This will remove the Register widget and allow a user to simply create a ticket by clicking Submit a Ticket (thus avoiding confusion over what to do when a new user views the help desk).

The user will still have an account and their generated password will be mailed to them. They can then change the password if they choose to do so. This modification does not affect the View Tickets feature or anything else that I am aware of.

All you needed to do was to change the Guest User permissions:

- Staff CP > Users > Manage Groups > Guest > Click to set permissions > Can View Register Widget

Change it to No

The same could be applied to Registered User group.
