smtp is turned on, but no mail is sent is authentication is off... - 04-08-2006, 01:47 AM

Hi all,

I'm trying to work through an issue and haven't been able to figure it out...

We're on Windows 2003 server. PHP info is here: http://207.106.214.158/info.php

We have an email queue setup using pop3. We have our Admin > Settings > CPU OPtimization and Server Settings set with SMTP turned "on." Here's what's happening:

If I turn SMTP "off" altogether and somebody registers for our site, they'll get the validation email (PHP Mail sends it correctly) but it always gets flagged as spam.

If I turn SMTP "on" and turn "Use SMTP Authentication" off, the mail still works but gets flagged as spam.

If I turn "Use SMTP Authentication" on, I put in my credentials and the validation mail never gets sent at all. In fact, no mail gets sent once I turn validation on.

I have, of course tried every combination of user name and password (we know our usernames and passwords) and they don't seem to work.

How do I send mail using SMTP or PHP mail without everything being flagged as junk?

Thank you,

Gino

You shouldnt even be on php 4.4.2. Have you read the security advisaries? If security is important to you you will upgrade asap.

Well, of course security is important...We started with the latest version of PHP and quite simply, we couldn't get Support Suite to work. We actually downgraded. It took a lot of tweaking to get this thing running. I'm somewhat fearful of an upgrade at this moment.

I'd be happy to read the security advisory however, if you could point me to it.

But to my original question, any answer?

Thanks,
Gino

I just wanted to back up what you're saying. PHP4 is needed in a Windows environment for Kayako to work properly... straight from the mouth of Kayako Support.

yes, that's what I was told. So am I to understand that Kayako only supports PHP4 in a Windows environment but there are vulnerabilities? Bascially that means if I want to use this product, I have to do so insecurely? That sounds like Windows users are being hogtied a little bit...
