Staff and Admin access and - 06-09-2006, 02:52 PM

Hi Chaps

Quickie question

We already have got one support forum working - with no problems
http://support.blackspot.com
we've just setup http://support.roadangel.com.au

The idea was going to be duplicate the existing database to the Australian, this we did - but we couldn't access the admin / staff areas - so we went back to the default install - and we still can't acces admin nor staff

what are the default user/pwd for admin ?

The admin login password would be the one you chose while setting up the software on your server. Note, you cannot use 2 helpdesk softwares using a single DB. That will not work.

2 installations using a single database - 07-09-2006, 11:05 AM

Hi supportskins,

I'm thinking about using two supportsuite installations on different servers (one for admin/staff and one for clients) but share the same db. Could you provide more information on why it won't work?

Thanks,

Rob

The software uses the Product URL set in the software extensively throughtout the software. This Product URL is set in the DB under swsettings. Now if you use the same db for 2 helpdesks -- domain.com and domain2.com, assuming your original installation existed on domain.com; any ticket/kb article/troubleshooter/downloads created will have the link as domain.com and not domain2.com. The only work around is that you use satellite helpdesk to use the same DB for various helpdesk. Hope this helps.

Yes, yes, yes I do see what you mean. Changing the swsettings value would always cause problems when accessing from the install on the conflicting domain. I'll look into the satellite functionality.

It's that our corporate security want the admin/staff sites to be hosted within our Intranet, whilst the customer site is hosted on the Internet server. hmm.
