Unhappy Support Suite won't be able to support American Date Formats. Not Good! - 13-10-2005, 06:12 AM

I would have posted this message on the bug forum, but your bug tracker doesn't let me respond to issues you have deemed closed. So I will vent my frustration of a bug that apparently you say can't be fixed.

I have a lot of respect for you Neil, so don't take this personal, but to say that I must live with inputting the ticket due date field in European Date Format (i.e. D M Y) really blows!!! If it were any other dumb field in the program, I would grin and bear it for now. But a date field that is to be used on almost every open ticket that I create?
And I quote...
Quote:
This cant be fixed because the Javascript calendar requires that the date be in d/M/Y format.
You have to be kidding me right? Am I the only American based company that purchased SupportSuite? Heck... I have to imagine that the U.S. is one of your biggest market areas.

If Kayako's javascript calendar code was purchased and implemented from a third party, I strongly suggest you look at buying another calender script to integrate with SupportSuite.

A 15 second Google search on Javascript calenders found this:
http://www.softcomplex.com/products/tigra_calendar/

Personally, I don't care if I have to manually modify the current JS calendar script to support the American Date Format M D Y, just point me to the code and I'll take care of it myself. I've been very patient with SupportSuite v3, but I am starting to slowly lose confidence in this product. What other non-American standards will I be up against?

I truly expect this to be corrected in some manner (manual or by ultimately adhering to your admin date format setup) before v3 goes Gold. You won't win customers (or my recommendations to other business owners) over on this end of the pond otherwise.

Doug

Yep,

US date formats are important to us as well.

It's actually nice to see someone in the US have this problem Usually products are ONLY designed with the US in mind and its us in Europe that have to suffer :P Welcome to our world.

Hi Doug,

No I totally agree the option is there in admin to set the date formats then the majority of dates displayed do not use the setting. I was only repeating the reply given by Varun with regards the JS calendar.

Hi,

Would a toggle between EU and US date format be acceptable, but you would not be able to customize the way its displayed?

Of course that would be acceptable. I can care less about all those fancy date format options. Just pick one that is straightforward like a date picture that produces mm/dd/yyyy output.

You could easily add some setting in the Admin that identifies American Date Standards and warn users that the date picture override option doesn't apply to certain entry fields (or something like that).

I'm not picky... maybe meticulous, but not picky.

Later,
Doug

Hi Doug,

I'll let Varun know the toggle option will be fine and look to getting that implemented.

Doug, thanks for voicing your frustration on this issue. I previously posted and created a bug regarding the Date format not being properly reflected in the due date field (Task #571). Varun closed the ticket stating "The reason for closing is: Won't fix
Unfortunately, This bug cannot be fixed as the Javascript calendar
requires that the dates be in the dd/MM/YYYY format.. maybe we can add
a dd/MM/YYYY marker in there to let people know about it?"

As Doug stated, this isn't acceptable. A JavaScript calendar can be revised or conditionally replaced with an alternate calendar depending on the user's date format. I realize it may not be as quick and simple as fixing one line of code but certainly it can and should be fixed.

Hi guys,
Question for you. I've changed the date and time settings and am getting alot of javascript errors as soon as I enter calender or something else that has to do with it.
I cant seem to remember which the default value is. Could you tell us which one currently works with Kayako 3.0.13?

This is what we have right now:
Date Format: d M Y
Time Format: G:i:s
Date & Time Format: d-m-y G:i:s

Thank you.

Hi,
We are adding a Toggle for this in 3.00.26 to select EU or US date formats.

Regards,

Varun Shoor

I'm running .32 and still don't see the date toggle? I was able to change the date format for tickets, but the calendar still has non-US date format. No hope for that?

We are American based and also need the MM/DD/YYYY format. The US must be the biggest market area, so they should. And yes it's not in .26 because my friend verified this for me. We are disgusted with Kayako!! Always promises of builds and fixes and they never deliver.

Ditto.

After upgrading to the latest CVS 3.00.80, I can also confirm that this long standing issue has not been fully resolved.

It appears that some areas were corrected, but not all.
