Suspicious behavior of the mail parser - Kayako

I've found strange behavior of the mail parser. Address of ticket sender is saved as '@' in the database if From: header contains some escaped characters (\). Is there any way to:
1. prevent this in future?
2. repair already received tickets to contain correct e-mail address?

Running on dedicated Linux server, using IMAP for e-mail fetching.
