LiveResponse Linux client - 15-10-2006, 06:41 PM

Hello.
Does Kayako have in plans to create a Linux version of LiveResponse client ?
Was anyone here able to run this software using wine/cedega emulators?
Thank you.

I did run it a while ago in Wine (about a year ago) when we first purchased it, and at the time it was very unstable within Wine and reluctant to do anything.

I'm trying it now, but having problems with the Mozilla ActiveX library. Am upgrading wine, so will try again later. But, as it's heavliy based around IE, I doubt it'll work.

Or even better a small Java application (as then it'll be OS-independent and hopefully run on some mobile/cell phones as well)

I ran Live Response in Wine again yesterday, and aside from the 30-or-so 'Internal Application Errors' that popped up, it just about reached the stage of displaying the window and then gave up with a divide-by-zero error.

So still no go.

As for mobiles/cell phones - I wouldn't want to work with 4 clients on that and viewing browing data would just be impossible. I'm fine with just the ticket side of it - I'd rather a full computer interface to deal with chat sessions.

But, a Java (as must as I dispise java) application would be the best solution here.

a linux client is really needed. users must not be forced to use windows just for chat system.
i am running a virtual machine of XP under ubuntu just for chats
anyway the good news is a web client is on its way.
Use web interface to answer LiveSupport chat.

Linux Client for Instaalert at least.. - 12-05-2007, 01:13 PM

Surely, it now wouldn't be that hard to implement Instaalert or similar in Linux. I mean, you could do what Google did with Picasa and spend a bit of time to get it working with it's own wine installer..I mean, it nearly works already with wine.

Alternatively, it seems to be a .Net application and for this, you might be able to try and build it with Mono (open source .Net).

I think one of the above options would not require more than a few days work for a decent developer and a decent .net developer should really be branching himself out to take a look at Mono now anyway.

Otherwise, why not open source (under Kayako's own license) the codebase and let us see what we can do with it? Surely, it would actually server Kayako's interests more than what they would lose?

I asked about releasing the code base a while back and the reason they cannot is it uses components from codejock.com which they are not allowed to distribute.

I think Kayako would be best getting a web based staff area for LiveResponse. This would cater for everybody then...

I believe a web based client is being worked on. No ETA was provided for it though

Ah, great stuff.

To be honest, the majority of people use Windows. The small amount who don't will be able to use the web based version. It would not be a good idea to spend vast amounts of time developing for Mac + Linux as people have requested to find only a few people using it.

Just wanted to chime in here.

I use both windows system and linux on my desk here. MOST of my work is done in Linux, and the windows machine is primarilly used for the live chat software.

I know much of my staff also use Linux at home, and not being able to run the software on Linux is limiting at times.

I'd like to see some progress on this too - but figured I'd just chime in here that I'm anxiously awaiting a linux version, web based version or just SOMETHING that doesn't require windows

Another vote for Linux and/or Java.

I suppose this too would be pushed to v4.
