Using the WinAPP on a Mac - 01-10-2006, 11:26 PM

Has anyone figured out a way to load/run the winapp on a mac?

Also, is there any way to make closed tickets viewable by everyone? (for history information.)

Yours in Service,

Jason

I dont think you can run the Win App on Mac. It yet does not support any other OS besides Windows.

We do not yet have a crossplatform solution. If we see enough demand, however, it's certainly possible.

Just to make sure you know that there is demand for a Mac version of the winapp. Either that or a web based version of the support suite

Funny,

I asked for a Mac app a couple of months ago and was basically told a Mac app wouldn't be forthcoming, ever. Not "we'll see" -- Never. Supposedly a web based client is in the works (good in an of itself and I'd like to see that as another option), but not as good as having a native app). So don't hold your breath.

I'd love to see a Mac OS X app, but I doubt we'll ever see one.

You can use VPC, Parralels, boot camp, etc. to run Windows and thus the WinApp, but I find it too big a pain to do regularly.

I would have said let's ask for a mac app but we can now run windows apps on macs and frankly, the more the K team spends developing and debugging our core products, the better off we will all be.

I've had the request in there to be able to answer LiveSupport chats again via browser since December of 2005. I would LOVE to be able to use my Mac and Linux machines for LiveSupport again...

Use web interface to answer LiveSupport chat.

Varun said he had added it to his todo list for v3 on 12/19/2005, but I have not received any response from support on where it is at since...

And giving up my PowerMac G5 for to spend a whole bunch of money on a comparable Macintel just doesn't seem like something I really want to do...

I agree, I dont like using my g5 to RDC into a old box just to use the winapp and we are moving most machines to mac the next big go around if at all possible. A AJAX version would be most useful - we already chat to any of our customers on mac or pc it only makes sense we should be able to be platform agnostic as well.

I would like to add my request to see a Mac version of the Winapp in some form, either as an application, or web based chat client.

Also, I currently use Safari to answer tickets and access the staff area of SupportSuite...it's painfully slow, much slower than on a Windows machine. Any ideas why, and can it be fixed?

I've just changed to OSX from Windows - I NEED this client for my daily usage so currently having to use Parallels with XP which is annoying.

I've tried both the LiveSupp/InstaAlert with CrossOver and just seems to get the load but then freezes - anyone else tried it?

Shame really...

We asked for support for just instaalert months ago for Linux / Mac but it seems there is never enough demand whenever someone had the same demand.

I said screw it and created at least the basic functionality of instaalert (alerting for new tickets) in a basic java app but unfortunately that is the only functionality I ever bothered to build as both a PHP backend and a java frontend must be written since eSupport's backend is closed and unknown to the public.

It only took me a few hours to write it / work out the bugs... which makes me wonder how much work it really takes to write a new basic java frontend for the backend that already exists.

I would deffinetly like a Mac/Linux or even web app just to get rid of windows already.. i've been using parallels/vmware just to be able to use the liveresponse app... and yes that`s very annoying.

I would even settle for the Chat only module.. so i can login and accept incomming calls only.. since the other features are already available on the staff page.

Thanks.

I would love for a Mac client even if it was for chat only. Using parallels works but it gets kind of annoying after a while. A mac client would rock if it had Growl Support as well for notifications.

I vote for the web support - maybe something like the pronto interface for communigate pro email server by stalker software.
