Hi Jamie!

Varun told me on 12/19/2005 that this functionality was on his todo list to add regarding FlySpray task #1113.

Varun also said on 10/27/2006 that the new ajax staff chat interface was coming and would be in CVS before 3.10.

And then RackedHosting, one of your Official Kayako Testers posted in the forum on 11/11/2006 that it was going to be available very soon. Which implies that he was testing it for Kayako.

So, the information we have been given from Varun and one of your Official Kayako Testers is the opposite. I've been waiting for this functionality from Varun for over a year now! Please ask him to come back to the forum and clear this up.

With the lack of a web based chat for staff members and such poor client feature functionality on the client side, I'm ready to buy another product.

The commitment from Varun that the client side functionality would greatly enhanced with 3.10 and the web staff chat was coming in 3.10 are the "ONLY" two things that have kept me waiting for the Live Response functionality.

I use the program to support clients, not staff! If Kayako is going to continue to string us along and continue to ignore client functionality, I'm ready to go elsewhere.

Hi netFusion,

I am sorry for the mixed signals having been receiving - in the months leading up to the release of 3.10 a lot lot of tasks had to be reprioritised (bug fixes, other features of importance). It was decided that the browser based live chat feature would be too much of an undertaking to fit in, get it tested thoroughly, add requests and fix bugs to it.

At the time, it was more important the next STABLE release was pushed out.

I can tell you that the chat functionality is not at testing stage (being a tester myself), but in the morning I will ask Varun what stage he is at and when the target of release is.

I would speculate further, but speculation may end is disappointment.

Many thanks,

Jamie Edwards (jamie.edwards ]at[ kayako.com)

Hi Jamie,

I received the same signals about the webbased chat function for staffmembers.

I understand why it's not integrated, but I hope this will be some sort of prio if possible.

Cheers,

Thijs

Hi everyone,

Even though it is Sunday, I spoke to Varun today about the plans for this.

There is a plan for web based live chat for a staff user.

We will not be looking to develop cross-platform LiveResponse applications. Only for Windows will the application be available. Anyone on another platform will have to use the web-based option.

The web based chat for staff users will be appearing in Version 4 of the product line.

Due to the extensive framework changes that will have to be added to the core to handle the AJAX for the front to the web based live chat (multiple tabs and so on), hacking it into a version 3.X is out of the question.

I do not want to speculate on an ETA for Version 4, but from what I have been seeing so far, and from what the developers say it is not a long time away.

Thanks,

This is correct, according to the current plans.

I did, but it is unlikely a widget will be developed (say, for InstaAlert) - but even moreso for LiveResponse, where trying to fit the functionality of a live-chat application into a widget's API would be asking too much of the widget system.

I definitely think that a browser based solution is the best way forward - as everyone should have a browser (possibly even on Pocket PCs, depending on the capability of the browser in handling AJAX and JavaScript).

Linux yes - 30-01-2008, 12:46 AM

I use mainly linux debian etch, debian sarge fro all my work on desktop and server.

Its is very anoying to need such cool software under a OS (i dont even want to mention the name) to use livechat or e-support.

PLease provide us with a linux application as soon as possible. Preferable Debian or if not possible a tar.gz so instalation kan me done on any major linux distrubution. Open source for this part (the client) would shurely boost your sales.

Otherwise i have no complains. Great software.

Kind regards,

dutchfish

Web based app for live chat defenetly should be. We don't use kayako live chat because it doesn't have web based application for staff.

It will be added in V4 for which no release date has been set.

According to the WxWidgets site, WxWidgets is not a "Widget" engine. Its an API for GUIs. Allowing you to write once run anywhere (that the API supports). Kind of like Java for GUIs.

From their site:
Quote:
wxWidgets gives you a single, easy-to-use API for writing GUI applications on multiple platforms that still utilize the native platform's controls and utilities. Link with the appropriate library for your platform (Windows/Unix/Mac, others coming shortly) and compiler (almost any popular C++ compiler), and your application will adopt the look and feel appropriate to that platform. On top of great GUI functionality, wxWidgets gives you: online help, network programming, streams, clipboard and drag and drop, multithreading, image loading and saving in a variety of popular formats, database support, HTML viewing and printing, and much much more.
At any rate. I'm really wanting an Application for Mac OS X. If you can't provide it, there is two options for me. I don't get the LiveChat (and perhaps drop my Support Desk) and go with another provider. Option 2 is that if an API is available, I build my own live chat application for Mac OS.

I don't see an API around yet, but I've read that one is in the works. This true?

Thanks,
Brian

P.S. Support still hasn't resolved that issue of mine (MB issue) and has now forgot about my ticket again

We will be providing a multi-platform solution; it will either be browser based or what we are currently researching; Adobe Air which will provide a hybrid desktop solution and web-based solution.

An API is in the works, but it will not cover live chat functionality to the extend that you would be able to build your own client.

I will poke someone for you
