Lightbulb Auto Logging in on a Laptop - 08-12-2006, 02:31 PM

Currently i run InstaAlert on a Dell Laptop, i very rarely connect to the internet using anything but Wireless Internet. I have InstaAlert setup to login automatically when i start the windows.

The problem is, InstaAlert tries to connect to my server before my wireless has connected, so it fails, and then sits dormant in my taskbar until i manually tell it to login.

I have kind of gotten around this by turning off the built in autorun on login, and having a script run that waits 5 minutes and then starts InstaAlert, however it would be much nicer if this was doable within InstaAlert.

Some ways to do this that would be fine would be.

1. Use some method to determine when a Lan (or WLan) has connected and then try to login.
2. Have a configurable amount of times for InstaAlert to try again to login, and a configurable aount of time between the attempts. You should also be able to make the popup alert that says Login Failed to only show up if the final time fails.
3. Have a configurable time for InstaAlert to wait before it attempts to Login.


Obviously you would only need to do 1 of the above, and the order of preference would be 1 then 2 then 3.

I have this issue too. Our entire office is laptops. It should try to connect when live net connection is found (if you choose to tell it to operate like that), like MSN messenger does. Its a relatively straightforward thing to implement, so lets see what they say.

Same thing for Winapp.
