We are currently planning on implement a web based solution that will allow you to chat to users via the staff control panel. These plans are open to change, but we will not be issuing anything concrete for the time being.

You can at the least expect we will provide a web-based chat solution for staff for Version 4.

I have a half way solution that may be of interest to people that I will soon be releasing. It is an OpenFire plugin that notifies people connected to it when a new ticket or new ticket reply is applicable to them just like InstAlert.

It connects to the same place as InstAlert so no need to modify the source code, either.

Oooo.... never heard of OpenFire, just looked it up and it looks pretty cool.

Your plugin sounds like a cool addition too.

Yea, OpenFire is very cool. At some point I plan to pull it away from using the API InstAlert connects to and create our own so that we can do full alerts just like the email alerts (ie on ticket assignments and also create rules for doing it).

You might want to look into eJabberD. It's multi-homed and scales like OpenFire could never dream of.

if i may.... - 07-08-2008, 11:06 PM

i am sure this debate is getting old, sorry to add to it. I was wondering if you would mind emailing me some information on the api that your windows live response application uses to communicate with the support site, and the data you pass back and fourth / protocols. I only ask because i wanted to try to make a client in QT. If successfull, i would be willing to submit it back to you as opensource, and i am sure that the linux community members that are also clients of yours would be willing to help continue the development to keep it working, port to others (mac), add new features. it may turn out to be a great way for you to get new ideas from the developers that use your product and allow you extend yourselves more into alternative markets without having to spend any money on the development.

let me know if that would work (easier to ask for permission first).

--thanks

Our company is very interested in an InstaAlert client for Linux.

In our country people are migrating to Linux desktop (mostly Ubuntu) in droves - looks like people finally became sick of restrictive software licensing and proprietary lock-in.

As soon as you've developed an InstaAlert application for Kayako please let me know.

regards,
Eugene

When god gave out brains, vision, and ability, your name came up first. Well done on an excellent product that has just nicely rounded off my Ubuntu desktop.
