Question How to perform backup via cron - 04-10-2007, 12:19 PM

Hi,

Is it possible to run the backup routine available in Admin CP under Database -> Backup using cron or other routine under a Linux server?

I am trying to automate the backup process in our server without having to access the Admin CP everyday just do run the backup.

Thanks in advance,
Wellington

Not like that it isn't, no.

Do you have root access to the server? If so, you will be able to use the attached backup script for databases. Simply remove the .txt extensions, edit the conf file, upload to the server and set it to run on cron. It will FTP the databases to any remote FTP server or you can set it to localhost.
Attached Files
File Type: txt databases.conf.txt (109 Bytes, 11 views)
File Type: txt databases.txt (616 Bytes, 11 views)

To add to that, you also need to open the file named just databases and edit the following line :-
Quote:
eval `cat /root/remote_backup/databases.conf`

Just 1 simple question: it seems that mysql database needs username and password to use mysqldump, what should i change in the mysqldump command line to use my username and password?

Here is the message I got when I run it:

mysqldump: Got error: 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO) when trying to connect
gzip: kayako_suite.sql.gz already exists; do you wish to overwrite (y or n)? y

I tried mysqldump -u root -p rootpassword but it asks for password again. Any hint to run it without having to give the password?

Thanks in advance

If you run the dump command directly in SSH does it work?

I got the right parameters and it is now working.

I modified the mysqldump command using the following parameters: -uUser -pMypassword

Thanks for helping!

Yea, I used to use it myself (custom development by the techs at my data center) but stopped when I got R1Soft's backup software.

Attached is a one for files too.
