Question How to VIEW a PRIVATE KB Article? - 24-04-2007, 02:00 PM

We are adding private KB articles for staff reference only. However, we don't see a way to actually view them! The only way to view private KB articles is as if you're going to EDIT them. We just want people to view (in a read-only mode) the articles.

I had hoped that once I was logged in to the support CP (public interface) as a STAFF user or ADMIN user, that the private KB articles would appear. That is not the case.

Please advise...

Hi Neal,

I have moved your thread to the correct forum.

To answer your question - the only way to view private articles is to "view" them within the staff control panel (as described), which also allows you to edit them. Or, they can be viewed using the instant suggestion system when making a staff reply (if enabled), or can be viewed when searched for using the instant article search box (on the top-right) of the staff control panel.

You may be interested in a staff knowledgebase lister for the dashboard, which is a mod released by a community user in the Modifications forum.

Thanks,

We don't want our minions viewing KB articles in edit mode, we don't want them to change them. Additionally, not all staff members have access to the KB "tab" (area) therefore they cannot view them! There needs to be a way for staff to view private KB articles without having to go into the KB area of the StaffCP, again, not everyone has permission to be there or create new KB articles.

This is a shortfall that needs to be fixed.
