vBulletin and Kayako - 07-02-2008, 06:53 AM

Hi,

We'd like to have a single sign on / loginshare between vBulletin and kayako. Is this supported? How do I do this? What steps do I folow? Is there a guide? Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
anu.

Craig, nice tutorial.

Quick question - Does this need to be started when first using the applications? I have a piece of software running that supports login share from kayako.

I've been running them both separately for some time.

How well would it work if i turned it on now?

Would there be issues? Kayako accounts that are not in the other software. Do they still work? Can tickets still be created if not in the other software DB?

No, you can set it up at any time. LoginShare works by pulling the account at point of login to Kayako.

So what it does is look the account up in the other DB from the e-mail & sets the session vars for the other software?

Yes. When a user tries to login to Kayako it looks at the database of the software it is connecting to, checks their credentials and if sucessful, copies their details over to Kayako's database and logs them in.

Hello Craig,

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate your help. I have a few more questions. Here is my scenario:
I have multiple template groups in my system, template-grp1, template-grp2, template-grp3 etc. I'd like only users belonging to template-grp1 to have access to the forum.
  • vBulletin has this limitation where the users have to be created in its db. In this case will I still be able to create users belonging to template-grp1 in vBulletin and users belonging to all other template groups in kayako . If I select the Login share parameter as vBulletin only for the template-grp1 and use the SupportSuite Login Share for the other groupsI'm assuming the users belonging to the other user groups will still be able to continue using the support portal. Is my assumption correct?
  • For template-grp1 since the users are created in vBulletin, How do I associate them with User Groups? I have many user groups that fall under template-grp1. Will the user information be editable from kayako? If I edit the user information in kayako staff interface and associate it to the UserGroup, will it work?
  • Is there a way to Hide the "Change My Password" option from the kayako interface just for template-grp1 users?
Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks again,
anu.

Yes to all 3. Basically, if you just link the one template group to the LoginShare, it will do all that for you.

I tried getting loginshare working with php audit today. Did not have much luck. It gets to the database but the user does not authenticate at all.

Login stated "username" on kayako login screen - where phpaudit just has emails.

hmm

yeah made sure of that by making the password not correct, then got an error. So it was right.

Just kept saying invalid user / login from kayako.
