We have different customers who shouldn't be able to see each others stuff - so we use the departments very much.
When you (the Staff) make a download category it is very difficult to sort them from each other. Sure you can make three categories called ie. "Manuals" for departments such as "Coca Cola", "Microsoft", "Ford". (each of these have a category called "Manuals" but they don't share the files, so they need one category each. In the staff area you cannot see the difference of these three categories called by the same name as it is now.
So either you need to make a category for each department first like this:
Coca Cola
-Manuals
Microsoft
-Manuals
Ford
-Manuals
or like this:
Manuals - Coca Cola
Manuals - Microsoft
Manuals - Ford
The first is what we do since it makes it look less stupid (no need to have a brand name on every category), but it still makes more subcategories nessesary than needed (since the very first folder the users go through is the name of the brand ie. Coca cola and then under this category they will find the Manuals).
The buttom of line is that it would be nice to be able to see on the categories-web-site which departments the different categories was assigned to. |
