+1 for this. You could create a Jabber user on your server and have Kayako connect to this and send a message when a new ticket comes in.

Actually you can do this right now, just create a ticket alert and configure it to send a notification via email to the staff user email. Then configure your gmail account to check emails from the POP/IMAP account of that staff user and that should be it.

Not possible if your using Jabber as an internal communication tool. I would like to see alert rules like there is now with the ability to send messages to all the messenger gateways. It shouldn't be that difficult to have something connect, send messages and then disconnect I would not of thought.

I would also like to see this as a feature. We run an internal jabber/xmpp server and it would be great to use this for ticket notifications for internal staff, and also the ability to use google talk (which is also xmpp) would benefit a lot of people.

I would be willing to donate towards the cause if others are interested too.

Thanks,

My company will be releasing an OpenFire plugin to do this in the next few weeks requiring no modification to Kayako and working off the API InstAlert uses.
