I use Buxfer.com and got SMS alerts from them for free! They use Twitter for free SMS alerts.

Please, add same feature to Kayako. I would like to get SMS alerts in Kayako free too. Anybody agree with me?

+1 for me as well.

The company I work for does SMS and I would like to use our own service as well.

Also I am still puzzled as to why Kayako charges to use SMS. I know they want to make money (Who doesn't), but I have a work around for setting up the current Kayako system with Free SMS (Well depends on the end users carrier plan for SMS)

Steps:

First create 2 accounts for each user who needs the SMS alerts. One account as normal and the other account for SMS.

The second account that will be used for SMS, use the phone number + the carrier Address to send SMS to the end users phone. for examples please visit SMS gateway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and look under the section: "Email to SMS / Web to SMS

Your going to use the email to SMS examples. so if your a Verizon customer you would enter in the email address like so number@vtext.com

Now you can setup an alert, depending on how many SMS messages you want, choose your alerts wisely.

NOTE: now only the first 160 characters will be sent (Some carriers a little more or less), but you will get an SMS for the types of alerts you have setup.

+1 for me I never pay kayako for the sms service so please do some thing about it
